Homeless in Kingsey Falls.
(Homeless: With no fixed address)
We’ve been busy. Very busy.
No4 has been sitting waiting for all that snow to melt so he can finally drive his first kilometers and let me fine tune his fuel pump to get the best out of that new engine. But in the mean time, France and I have been running around like chickens with their head cut-off.
Preparing for this one Adventure is much more than just setting up a vehicle for travel. Got to go see the accountant, the financial adviser, the notary (for our wills). Got to get our vaccines (we’re up to about $600 worth of them now and still missing 2 or 3…) and don’t forget Minnies’ shots too. What are we going to do with the cars?? Sell ‘em? Keep ‘em?? And what about the house? Should we sell? Rent? Or leave it empty?
After changing our minds every week for months, we finally made a decision, got lucky and found a renter for the house. Yes, comes July 1st, we’re outdoors. Basically becomming homeless in Kingsey Falls. By then, our home will be old No4 and wherever he’s parked will be our “lieu de residence”… for the next two years!
Renting the house takes a big chunk of pressure off our back but has implications and brings up more questions:
What happens if something happens to the house while we’re away? What will the house be like when we get back? Fortunately Mat (Frances’ youngest son) and a few great friends volunteered right away to help should our renter face a problematic situation. We now have 3 or 4 persons ready to step in and do their best to solve the problem should one arise. Thank you guys!
But back to our list of things to take care of. There’s the cable, the internet, the postal service… Who will take care of our mail?? Of our bills?? Though most bills can be payed thru the internet, some stuff still only comes thru Mr. Postman. And what do we do with our furniture? Make a big pile and set it on fire? Store? Sell? Don’t forget the insurances. Car insurance, home insurance, personnal travel insurance, No4 insurance… Also got to get that health check done and go visit the dentist too. Oh! And I need that eye exam I’ve been putting off for months (years…) so I can get my new glasses…
Yes, it CAN get a little overwhelming…
And these are but few things that come to mind as I write…
There’s also this detail called “The Job” that we need to get free of… After working for Cascades inc. for 25 years for me and 30 for France, the time has come to say goodbye. THIS is a BIG decision! A BIG DEAL! Not like you would leave a job you’ve been at for a couple of years or something. Over the years we’ve accumulated many great advantages, greater than many other companies will ever offer. Like a decent salary (no, you will not be told how much…) and 7 weeks paid vacation a year… Within a couple of months or so, all this will be gone, behind us. A BIG DEAL, I tell ya. No job means no revenue; like zero income, nothing, nada; and it’s OUR DECISION! To me, it kind of feels like parachute jumping. Why in the world would someone want to jump out of a perfectly good, flying airplane? We could just stay onboard, fly south to the islands for a vacation and enjoy the comforts of home for our retirement. But no. We deliberately CHOOSE to jump off, quit our jobs, all this to explore only a fraction of our world. Did I mention it was a BIG DEAL for us? Man, I hope my parachute opens…
