Come see us at OX13
We are excited to announce we will be on location at the Overland Expo, may 17 – 19, 2013 near Flagstaff, Arizona. (www.overlandexpo.com)
Come and visit our booth (#57), chat with us about our new Adventure, have a look at our new (sort of) 1983 HJ47 Landcruiser. While you’re at it, why don’t you bring along one of your older pair of reading glasses and drop them in our box.
Recycle your old glasses and Give the power to see.
As you may know, the Quadtrek team, France, Minnie and Marc (quadtrek.net), is preparing to embark on another Adventure this time not using quads but rather driving a 30 + year old Toyota Land Cruiser across the Americas. The new and exciting Adventure will be called Landtrek and you will be able to follow it all right here on Landtrek.net. Preparing this new trip made us realize how fortunate we were to even be able to plan another journey. We figured we should try to double it’s purpose and do something for the communities we’ll visit as we travel. But what to do? After reviewing the possibilities we made a choice. With your help, we’re going to collect OLD READING GLASSES bring them along with us and donate them ON YOUR BEHALF to the people who need them but don’t have access to glasses. Please note that we canno’t donate prescription glasses as we do not have the ability nor the intention of pretending to be optometrists. Prescription glasses require eye exams that we are not equipped to perform, therefore, if we should collect prescription glasses, we would hand them over to the Lions club as they can take care of them. What we are looking for is regular reading glasses you would buy at the dollar store. The type you try on yourself and, if they improve your vision, head for the cash register… We also collect old sunglasses and satefy glasses (for work).
On the road.
While on our voyage, one of our goals will be to reach remote communities that may not have easy access to “modern” facilities… Like glasses… Our plan is a simple one. We favor a very personal approach. When we get into a small town or village, we explain our purpose to the town authorities and, with their permission, set up a table with our box of glasses. Folks drop by, try on a few pairs and simply keep the one pair that suits them best. Muy facil. Depending on the quantity of glasses we collect, we can get more shipped to us as we go along if necessary.
Make a difference in someone’s life. You can. It’s easy.
Sometimes, a small gesture makes a huge difference. Imagine the mother struggling to fix her daughters’ dress because she can’t see clearly. Or a Dad trying to repair his old outboard motor so he can go out at sea and bring back the family dinner. Think of how much easier it is when you can actually see what you’re doing… I know what I’m talking about. I NEED glasses every time I work on my Landcruiser! Everybody, at least everybody my age, has an old pair of reading glasses that we’ve simply outgrown, needing a stronger pair. That’s what we’re looking for. Your older pair. Don’t throw it in the garbage or let it sit in your drawer. Recycle it, bring it to us, someone can use it. We’ll take it to them for you. Thank you.
Corporations, businesses and media can help too.
Everybody is welcome to contribute glasses of course, but corporations, media and businesses of all sizes can help in other way also. We will gladly accept your support in return for some valuable exposure for your business on our web sites, on our vehicle and through magazine articles and the likes. Note that our trip does not solely rely on external funding as we have been saving for years to make this come true. Your support will help make the trip more efficient, allowing us more time helping others by distributing “clear sight”. You are more than welcome to take a look at our other web site, www.quadtrek.net to see how many businesses supported us on our last trip and the exposure they got in exchange for their help. We were also featured in over a dozen paper magazine articles litterally world wide. Please do like Cascades inc. and take advantage of a great opportunity to help us help others and get great exposure to top it off! Thank you.
