The end of the road

Now that’s it’s home, we need to know if our new baby will be reliable enough to survive an extend trip out in the boonies.
We also need to know if  WE will survive a looooong ride in a 40 series Landcruiser (they are not know for their smooth, traveller friendly ride…). So, we decide to head out to the end of the world… Or at least the end of the road. Happy valley/ Goose Bay, Labrador will be our first remote destination.

Our good friend Dave was planning on visiting with us from Utah at just about the time we would be leaving, so I ask him if he would like to join us and he immediately jumps on the occasion. For a while, we think of changing our destination to James Bay but, for some reason, we are attracted to Labrador and end up sticking with our first idea.

So how do you prepare for a trip to the ends of Labrador in a 30 year old vehicle you’ve bought not long ago and still don’t know anything about? Easy. The idea is to check the cars’ reliability, right? Then just change all fluids, lube chassis, check air pressure in tires, fill up the fuel tank and you’re all set as far as the vehicule goes.

  • Prep Landcruiser for Lab. Check !

Now what should we bring? The cars’ got a built in stove and fridge so that takes care of that. But what else do we need?

  • Beer.  Check
  • Mosquito repellent cream.  Check
  • Porta potty.  Check
  • Bug screen vest.  Check
  • Drinking water.  Check
  • Bug screen hat.  Check
  • Food (dry/canned/pasta/etc…).  Check
  • Citronella candles (supposed to ward off bugs).  Check
  • -10*C sleeping bags (it’s september, after all…)  Check
  • Mosquito repellent spray. Check
  • Rain gear.  Check
  • Shorts.  Naaaah.
  • Bug screen gloves?  Come on. How bad can it be?
  • Sun glasses.  Probably not.
  • We’re all set!

Watch out Labrador! Here we come!

  • For us, Marc and France, in 2014, it's bye bye boss and home.

After our 10 month, 15,000 kms ATV Adventure, (www.quadtrek.net) we, this time, set out with Minnie, our dog, to explore all 3 Americas driving
our 30 + years old Landcruiser.

Our car, provided it survives, will allow us to reach remote areas far off the tourist traps.

Follow us on this new and exciting Adventure. Who knows what we'll discover?
